Board of Supervisors Minutes
October 5, 2020

The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:30 a.m. October 5, 2020.  Present:  1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest, present by phone; 2nd District Supervisor, Kendall Jordan and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Anderson.

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the minutes of the September 28th regular meeting.   All voted aye.  Motion carried

The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, to get a road projects report.

Michelle Yuska, County Treasurer, was present to discuss a possible abatement of taxes on property acquired by United States Fish & Wildlife.  Pursuant to state law, the Federal Government is exempt from taxes.  They are asking the taxes be abated.  Motion by Vest, seconded by Jordan to abate the taxes on Parcel #’s 2024400012, 2025200009, 2025200011 and 2025400005 totaling $2,455.00 as requested by the County Treasurer.  All voted aye.  Motion carried. 

Todd Apfel, Zoning Administrator, recommended the Board appoint Todd Sebesta, Toledo, to the Board of Adjustment.  This would be to fill a vacancy and run from 10-5-2020 to 6-30-2025.  Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to appoint Todd Sebesta, Toledo, to the Tama County Board of Adjustment.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

County Auditor, Laura Kopsa, asked the Board to set a date for a public hearing for a budget amendment hearing.  This is due to increased costs ($1,150,000) related to the recent Derecho storm in August.  Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to set a public hearing for October 19th at 10:00 am for a budget amendment to the FY21 Tama County Budget.  All voted aye.  Motion carried. 

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the Veteran’s Affairs quarterly Report.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Motion by Vest, seconded by Jordan to approve the claims for payment as presented.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Chairman Anderson adjourned the meeting at 9:47 a.m.
