Board of Supervisors Minutes
October 1, 2018
The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:30 a.m. October 1, 2018. Present: 1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest; 2nd District Supervisor, Kendall Jordan and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Anderson.
Motion by Jordan, seconded by Anderson to approve the minutes of the September 24th regular meeting. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, to get a road projects report.
Heath Kellogg, Economic Development, and Elizabeth Ledvina, Veterans Affairs, were present to ask the Board to approve a resolution to support the Home Base Iowa Initiative. This is in an effort to match military veterans with jobs available across Iowa. Motion by Anderson, seconded by Jordan to approve the following resolution to support the Home Base Iowa Initiative:
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE HOME BASE IOWA INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the Office of the Governor of the State of Iowa has launched a public-private partnership called Home Base Iowa Initiative, which is an effort to match military veterans with jobs available across Iowa; and
WHEREAS, the Home Base Iowa Initiative consists of two programs, Home Base Iowa Businesses and Home Base Iowa Communities; and
WHEREAS, Governor Reynolds is requesting Iowa businesses and communities to promote and support the Home Base Iowa Initiative and one of the requirements for Tama County to be a Home Base Community is that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution of support; and
WHEREAS, the Tama County Board of Supervisors finds that it is in the best interests of Tama County and veterans everywhere to support the Home Base Iowa Initiative and adopt this resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, it is resolved by the Tama County Board of Supervisors as follows:
Section 1. The Tama County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims its support for the Home Base Iowa Initiative and encourages its residents to take whatever actions are necessary for Tama County to become and continue to be a Home Base Iowa Community.
Section 2. The Board of Supervisors also encourages Tama County businesses to take whatever actions are necessary to become and continue to be a Home Base Iowa Business.
Section 3. The Board of Supervisors and Economic Development Executive Director are authorized to take such further action as may be necessary to carry out the intent and purpose of this resolution.
Section 4. All resolutions, orders, or parts thereof, in conflict herewith are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby repealed, and this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its adoption and approval.
Roll Call Vote: Vest, aye. Jordan, aye. Anderson, aye. Resolution passed and adopted this 1st day of October 2018. Larry Vest, Chairman, Board of Supervisors. Laura Kopsa County Auditor.
Todd Apfel, Zoning Administrator, was present to ask the Board to approve two re-appointments to his zoning boards. Motion by Jordan, seconded by Anderson to re-appoint Doug Dvorak to the Zoning Board for a five year term. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Jordan to re-appoint Stan Graff to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for a five year term. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Jordan, seconded by Anderson to approve the claims for payment as presented. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Chairman Vest adjourned the meeting at 10:03 a.m.
