Board of Supervisors Minutes
December 26, 2018
The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:30 a.m. December 26, 2018. Present: 1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest; 2nd District Supervisor, Kendall Jordan (arrived late) and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Anderson.
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to approve the minutes of the December 17th regular meeting. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to change next week’s meeting to Wednesday, January 2nd due to the New Year holiday. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, to get a road projects report.
Chairman Vest swore in Michelle Yuska as Tama County Treasurer. Ms. Yuska will not be available on January 2nd when the other elected officials will be sworn in.
Michelle Yuska, County Treasurer, asked the Board for permission to transfer old tax sale lists and suspended tax lists dating back to 1864 to the museum. Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to allow the County Treasurer to give old tax sale lists and suspended tax lists to the museum. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Bob Etzel, Conservation Director, was present to share the County Conservation Board Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2018.
Tammy Wise, HR Administrator, was present to ask the Board to approve the addition of a Flex Card Policy to the Tama County Employee Handbook. The proposed policy would be an addendum to page 38 in the Tama County Handbook and states: The County will provide a Flex System Plan through TASC. The plan is for a health care and dependent care savings card only. All employees of Tama County are eligible to participate in the plan. Enrollment will be at the startup of a new plan or at the time you become eligible for the plan. You must choose your elections for each benefit in which you will be participating for the plan year. Employees will be furnished with an enrollment document showing allowable amounts to be saved. The guidelines are available on the TASC website. The amounts selected will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck over the period of the year. The employee will be responsible for all unfunded expenses during the plan year. In the event that an employee leaves employment with Tama County prior to fully funding their flex account any amount left unfunded will be deducted from their final payroll check(s) and placed into their flex savings account. Motion by Jordan, seconded by Anderson to approve the above proposed policy effective on it passage. All voted aye. Motion carried.
After more discussion, there was a motion by Anderson, seconded by Jordan to make another addition to the policy that states: During the employee’s retirement year, the elected amount of contribution cannot exceed the employee’s contributed amount during their employment. All voted aye, motion carried.
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vest to approve the claims for payment as presented. All voted aye. Motion carried.
Chairman Vest adjourned the meeting at 10:30 a.m.
