Board of Supervisors Minutes
April 3, 2017

The Tama County Board of Supervisors met at 9:30 a.m. April 3, 2017.  Present:  1st District Supervisor, Larry Vest; 2nd District Supervisor, Kendall Jordan and 3rd District Supervisor, Dan Anderson.

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the minutes of the March 27th regular meeting.   All voted aye.  Motion carried. 

The Board met with Lyle Brehm, Tama County Engineer, to get a road projects report.  He presented his 5 Year Construction Plan for 2018-2022 and his 2018 DOT budget.  Motion by Vest, seconded by Jordan to approve the Engineer’s 5 Year Construction Plan and his 2018 DOT Budget as presented.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

The Board presented years of service awards, along with the Board’s appreciation, to the following employees:
5 years:  Sara Gilbert, Treasurer; Brett Konicek, Roads; Brian Randall, Sheriff; Timothy Dolezal, Roads; Joel Faircloth, Roads; Casey Schmidt, Sheriff.
10 years:  Bryan Ellenbecker, Sheriff; Joseph Quandt, Sheriff; Patrick Ryan, Roads; Janine Anderson, Assessor.
15 years:  Rodney Drummer, Sheriff; Marcia Sawdey, Recorder; Dawn Jensen, Public Health; Joanne Husak, Economic Development.
20 years:  Curtis Hilmer, Roads; Douglas Dolash, Roads.
25 years:  Douglas Carlson, Roads.
30 years:  Connie Haughey, Attorney; Christy Wilson, Roads; Rick Raymond, Roads.
35 years:  Brent Heeren, Attorney.

Motion by Vest, seconded by Jordan to approve the following resolution to set a public hearing:
RESOLUTION FOR PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSAL
TO RECONFIRM PRIOR UNRECORDED STREET
VACATION AND TO DISPOSE OF VACATED STREETS BY
ISSUING A CORRECTIVE QUIT CLAIM DEED
Resolution No. 04-03-2017A
WHEREAS, based upon an Application by Jennifer L. Blohm, as Executor of the Estate of Fern E. Buffington, a request from the Tama County Engineer has been made to the Tama County Board of Supervisors, to reconfirm the prior vacation of a portion of a Tama County secondary road and to issue a corrective Quit Claim Deed which real estate is described as:
The East Half of Broad Street from the South line of Main Street
[now 160th Street] to the North line of Ripley Street AND the East
Half of Broad Street from the South line of Ripley Street 150 feet
to the South line of Lot Four (4), Block Fifteen (15), AND Staley
Street from the South line of Main Street South to the North line of
Ripley Street, all in the Original Town of Buckingham, Tama
County, Iowa,all of which is located in the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast
Quarter (NE􀂧 NE􀂨) of Section Four (4), Township Eighty-five
(85) North, Range Fourteen (14), West of the 5th P.M., and
WHEREAS, a public hearing as provided in Iowa Code Chapter 306 should be held
before considering said Resolution.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that a hearing on the proposal to confirm the prior
secondary road vacation and to dispose of said vacated secondary road by the issuance of a corrective Quit· Claim Deed will be held in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 306. Said meeting shall take place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017, at: Board Room Tama County Administration Building, 104 W. State Street, Toledo, IA.

The Board received a request from Lori Baier, Camp Creamery Project Chairperson, asking if the courthouse lawn could be used for lunch while they are having their Camp Creamery at the Wieting Theatre the week of July 24-28.  This would include children aged 7 and up.  Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the use of the courthouse lawn the week of July 24-28 for the Camp Creamery kids.  All voted aye.  Motion carried. 

A request has been made to move the Tama County Economic Development Office to the Tama County CPC office at 211 West State Street, Toledo.  Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the move of the Tama County Economic Development Office to some available offices in the CPC building in Toledo.  This will take place on or before June 1st.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.

Motion by Vest, seconded by Jordan to appoint Jim Novotny, Tama, to the County Compensation Commission for Condemnation Proceedings as a person with knowledge of real estate values.  All voted aye.  Motion carried. 

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Vest to approve the claims for payment as presented.  All voted aye.  Motion carried.
